CINCINNATI - As you might expect, Horizon Science Academy in Bond Hill doesn't specialize in physical education.
When Sean Emmett was hired a couple of years back to be a PE teacher, all of the school's equipment fit inside a small metal bin.
"We didn't have much," he said. "Being a poor school, we don't have many resources."
Emmett found a website called donorschoose.org that helped the school.
"It costs our school zero dollars," Emmett said.
The site has educators create a goal for supplies or equipment, and then the community can donate money to make the purchase.
So far, Emmett has been able to purchase $3,000 worth of gear, thanks to community donors.
"I'm very overwhelmed by the amount of generosity out there and the amount of love that people have out there for the education of small children," he said.
Among the items he secured through the program; bats, balls, scooters, even a parachute.
A new balance beam arrived Monday.
"It's just been a miracle," Emmett said.
The site helps educators in all fields, not just PE, to supplement their classroom supplies.
