Toddlers may babble off many different words, but a new list has been released of the must-know words for toddlers.
The list was unveiled at the annual conference for the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
The words are recommendations for things toddlers should be able to say by the time they are 2 years old. The list of 20 words includes: Mommy, daddy, milk, juice, hi, hello, ball, no, dog, cat, nose, eye, show, banana, car, hot, thank you, and shoe.
The group also says the average 2 year old should know 150 words. But experts say not to worry if your child doesn't, because some kids are late talkers and catch up later with their peers.
A child with average speaking ability would have 150 to 200 of the words on the list in their vocabulary, while late talkers typically have about 25.
